St. Joseph’s Church

Nilakottai was part of the Michaelplayam parish. It was found necessary to have a church to cater to the needs of the migrants to Nilakottai and the people who come there to sell jasmine.
It was bifurcated from Michealpalayam on 28-04-92. People were migrated from Michealpalayam and Silukkuarpatty. People settled here to sell flowers besides teachers and the Government employees also came and settled here. To catter to the spiritual needs of the people the church was built on 31-10-1982 and blessed by Archbishop Justin Diraviam at the time of Fr. Arulanadam was the parish priest of Micheal Palayam. The IMS fathers from Diravinagar were looking after the spiritual needs of the people. Before the church was built, masses were celebrated in the rented house.
In 1995 Nilakkottai was made an independent parish. Fr. Christu Dass IMS was the first parish priest. He bought the place in Philip Nagar and with the help of Bro. Kimpton built 25 houses for the people of Philip Nagar. In 1997, the presbytery was built and blessed by Archbishop Arockiasamy on 26-07-1997. The first diocesan priest was Fr. Francis Borgia. For the development of the parish the diocese has built St. Joseph Hall during the time of Fr. P.V. Susai. Compound and flog hoisting pillar were erected during the time of Fr. David Sagayaraj on 01-05-2012. In 2011 the Philip Nagar houses were given to the people by the diocese.
At the formation of the parish there were only 60 families, but now 130 families are residing here.
