St. Paul’s Church

Bastian Nagar was originally a substation of Gnanaolivupuram parish, People of the area wanted to have a grotto for worship. Later they wanted to have a parish. A parishioner, Mr. Sebastian well known for his philanthropy offered 20 cents of land for the construction of the new church. As it was not sufficient for building a church, on Fr. Dhivyanandam’s initiative the local people approached the Archbishop Justin Diraviam who helped to buy 48 cents of land. Fr. M. Divyanandam constructed a new church and presbytery. They were blessed and opened on 9th December 1984. As the church and presbytery were ready, Bastian nagar parish was bifurcated from Gnanaolivupuram parish and was established as a new parish on 7th September 1986. Fatima Nagar and Nagamalai Pudukkotai were the two important substations of this Parish. Nagamalai Pudukkotai was established as a separate parish in 1989 with Fr. Vima Amalan as the first parish priest. He started the devotion to Infant Jesus and began Vincent de Paul Society. Fr.N.P.Alphonse erected a grotto of Our Lady.
Fr. S. Peter Kulandai with his rich pastoral experience enriched this new field. The Bell tower was constructed during his period. During the time of Fr.Vedamanickam the Church was renovated and blessed by Archbishop Peter Fernando on 16 October 2005.
During the tenure of Fr. Rosario, in memory of Silver Jubilee celebration, an extension of front elevation o three towers were constructed with artistic beauty. The church as well as presbytery was renovated. Archbishop Most.Rev.Dr. Peter Fernando blessed them on 29th June 2013.
This parish enjoys the services of the religious sisters of St. Mary of Leuca, St. Joseph of Lyons and St. Claret.Moreover, this parish is being nourished by the activities of Legion of Mary, Vincent de Paul, St. Joseph, Secular Franciscan Third Order.
